I use acrylic rod and my entire reefs are pegged. Every rock and every coral. I have done this for a while now and to be honest it took a while to get the process down so things dont actually appear "pegged". But more importantly it took a while to figure out that if there is any play or motion whatsoever in what you peg, whether it be entire rocks or individual corals, it will have a negative affect on your coral, especially if talking about sps. They will continue to encrust much longer before they will grow out as they do not feel stable.
I use 3/4" rod for rocks and 1/4" for colonies/colonies attached to rocks and 3/16 for frags. Anything less moves and is bad imo. I have 15 lb rocks attached and suspended from the floor at one end of them and they do not budge a bit even being in massive amounts of current.
I havent taken any pics of my latest creation since I built it on my 240 sps tank, but I am very pleased with how it came out and it looks like nothing I have seen before. Its probably about time I bust out the camera and deal with my newly acquired really slow internet connection where I have moved to and put up some pics.
