Hey OodleyBoodely! It could be a good chance it is a mantis! If so even a small one can kill fish especially small fish and as they grow bigger fish are included and from what fish you have listed they would all be in danger even the tang. They are very efficient predators!

I was afraid you'd say something like that! I guess my next project involves catching that mantis. Hmmm...do traps work, or should I plan to remove rock and flush out with fresh water?

They had a tank at the Cabrillio Aquarium Meuseum in San Pedro, California, they had a Mantis (wasn't a peacock though) it was about a foot long and it was eating a hermit about half its size

vey scarry looking, I wouldn't want to fight it

-first time I'd seen one in person

Oodley Boodely since I have never had to take one out of a tank I have no idea of the best way to capture one although both methods you have suggested people have done but don't know what type traps.

I think I will try removing the rock. I think it is holed up in one of two pieces that would be easy to remove. Just hope I'm right, 'cause I reeaaally don't want to tear this tank down again. It'll have to wait 'til the holiday is over. Have a great Memorial Day!
