Particle Suspension - Kent Nautilus

I have been trying to use my skimmer to remove all the crap floating in my water. The skimmer doesnt seem to be be pulling out much of this stuff and I am starting to doubt how good of a job it is doing at least with the larger particles. I suppose I dont have much in my tank right now to produce organic waste that the skimmer would normally clean out. I am in the "nitrite-to-nitrate" phase os the cycle right now.

So my questions:
Does that sound valid? That that could be the reason I still have so many suspended particles in my water? I think this morning I will be putting a temp HOB filter with carbon on it to see if that clears it and willl eliminate the chance it could be micro bubbles.

Worse comes to worst, I will buy a new smaller, better skimmer. The Kent Nautilus is HUGE, especially for a 46 BF with a 10 sump.

skimmers are not designed to remove large particles. They do remove some, but you would have better luck removing them with a filter sock or other mechanical filter.
