Question

Partial Water Change: Salt Mix or Sea Water?

I have been doing partial water changes using Salt Mix for the past year and was wondering why should I use Salt Mix when the Sea is not that far away.

Is there any concern if I fetch Sea Water, run an internal filter in it for a few hours before doing a partial water change on the main tank?

My tank is 150g and doing 10g water change every month?

Please advise.

yazid,

If you're fairly sure that the water you collect is clean enough, go for it.
I use nothing but raw (not filtered) sea water myself. Oh, you'll need to buffer it and check Ca levels.

Jerel,

Thare have been many tank crashes reported over the years when folks have changed from one salt mix to another. Never heard of a problem changing to natural sea water but I would be EXTREMELY hesitant to change what has been working for me.

Good Luck!

Bill
