Hi Casey!

The Panther grouper is another predatory fish that should be fed meaty foods and live fish. Don't keep this fish with smaller fish like Damsels and small clowns unless they are intended as a meal! The Panther grouper will reach 20 inches in length in the wild and are suitable for large aquariums only. Johnny

Casey,
They are "safe" as far as corals go but will eat all your other fish, shrimps, and other crustaceans!!!! The grow to over 2' long so a huge aquarium is needed.
Best to pass on the Panther!
Dick

Yeah, what they said...

They really DO get huge, I've seen it. I can't believe how many LFS's sell them to unsuspecting buyers. "Oh, sure, that'll get along great with your $60.00 mated clownfish pair..."

One would need someting more on the order of 2oo for hat beast. Granted, they don't move much, but an 18" fish needs some room. They also get quite plain as they get older. I had one when I first started my Fo about 8-10 years ago. It got to about 8" and was already getting dingy and losing it's spots. We got it because it looked like our dalmation

That's an excellent point... their juvenile coloration is beautiful and vivid but as they grow up they really aren't a very attractive fish.
