I'm no expert but from what I do know, you should keep zoa's away from sps. And, if I'm not mistaken Paly's are basiclly the same as zoa's.
Sorry I'm not much more help to you But, my motto is, "When in doubt, pull it out"

I know zoanthids and Palys are a little different... but I had my Daisy coral right on top of a group of Zoanthids and the daisy was winning the battle... actually they were both doing fine... Daisy nice and inflated and the zoa's were extended and open...all the while brushing up against each other..
But if you do cut... wear gloves. Palytoxin+human=bad outcome for human.

sometimes an sps can win, some times not, depends on what type of each coral is, if it isnt worth the risk to you to loose the sps, remove the paly's, its really the only way to be sure.

If you want to destroy them, treat them like aiptasia. You could use Joe's Juice or raw kalk paste and burn them out.
Not sure how 'humane' that is to a paly though....I wouldnt think twice to do this to aiptasia though.

well I have a few touching the sps and the monti cap and so far so good...I would think if the damage was going to happen it would have already been done...I have a paly almost all the way on the monti cap and it hasn't hurt a thing? now as soon as I say that it will bleach?

I have been wondering this myself as my zoas are growing closer and closer to a monti. So no harm done huh?

On the same line of thought. They had a battle between corals on that Blue Planet series on Discovery channel. They had some time lapse of corals that were fighting for room (acro vs monti I think) but the acro shot out some snot stuff onto the monti cap. When it retreated back it left just skeleton. Very cool program. I hope everyone saw it.
With that thought couldn't the acro do the same to the polys?

i saw that, looked like some kinda acan, or a brain, vs a hydnophora or something. it was cool as heck either way.

if it does anything, it would bleach out a small area close to the zoa, or the zoa wont spread onto the cap.
