I'm pretty sure it doesn't really matter.
But with a Goby/Pistol pair, it's pretty much hit or miss at first.
But they'll eventually find each other and pair up somewhere along the line if they don't pair at first meeting.

Did I ever tell you about the time Brasky went hunting? Well anyway, Brasky decides he's gonna hunt down all four members of the Banana Splits. He stalks and kills every one of them with a machete. They all beg for their lives, except Fleagul.

They do have a specific species of Shrimp that they pair with in the wild, but in a tank enviroment.. It doesn't matter much.
Just like clowns and anemones, they have specific ones in the wild, but will end up hosting almost anything, even corals.

THough honestly it hardly matters as I only see the antennae 98% of the time It seems like there was someplace that used to sell them paired, maybe it was only in the Diver's Den of live aquaria. But if you could find pairs for sale it would at least tell you what they have been paired with in the past, natural or not.
