painting fish room

I'd like to paint my fish room (under the stairs) to help with the humidity & house damage.

Any advice?

I figured maybe any oil based paint?

THanks EBL

Hi EBL
Being a former painter I can give you 2 options:
It really does not matter if you use latex or oil paint. They sell a "mildew resistant" powder addative that you can add to any paint...It is mostly used for bathrooms with no ventilation, and does a great job preventing mildew, humidity and water damage on the wall surface. Or you can go with mildew resistant paint that is already mixed. It is a bit pricey but easier them mixing your own. There are many additives out there--but you get the point. HTH....Anthony

Thanks Anthony,

Great advice and I will definitely put that into action this weekend! Prepping the room for aquaria while I wait for the orders to roll in...

I'm also adding an exhaust fan and a floor drain...

You're the best!

Elizabeth

I would at least turn off your skimmer and cover the tank and if you have a air pump going turn it off ,so the fumes don't enter the tank.

Hee hee hee!! Sorry, the tanks are empty.... I don't even own the equipment yet... Basically, I figured I'd get everything all ready BEFORE I add all this expensive & fragile equipment....

But why would you turn off the skimmer if you were to cover the tank? (if I had a tank there)

Skimmers suck air. If some dust accidentally entered under the cover you don't want the skimmer sucking the air/dust in then mixing it into the water. Not fun.
