Painting!!
Hi Everyone my landlord just informed me that the doors in my new apt wasn't painted correctly so they are going to have to redo them. I explained that they were fine by me and I would really rather if they didn't. I also explained how the paint could effect my tank and he couldn't have cared less. I have 6 doors that will need to be repainted two are in the same room as the tank. Is this going to kill my fish and corals? Will I need to turn the skimmer off and if so for how long? Do you have any tips that will make this process any safer or easier?
Thanks
Patrick

Will they be sprying? or brushing? either way you could just create a tent over the tank with a drop cloth and open the windows if weather permits.I dont think fumes from the paint should be an issue especially if they just roll or brush it.
If you cover the tank just leave your lights off on the day they paint.
It's kinda odd that they would come in and paint while the apt is still occupied??? usually they do that inbetween tennants.
EDIT: Oh I just remembered you recently moved in. but still I would think he would just wait.

Like Chris said and I'd turn my skimmer off for a day or two.

yeah I did some touch painting last week and when I tell you it took less than 10 min I'm not exaggerating. The skimmer went crazy I had a flood.

I would have never thought about how it would have affected the skimmer. Thanks!

Just turn the skimmer off and open a window. Get some good circulation in the house. I'd be very surprised if you have any losses, though.

If they are brushing, I wouldnt bother with a sheet. I painted the wall behind my tank without any problems except the skimmer going nuts. It's in sump, though, so no flood.

does seem strange they want to paint interior doors, even tho you said you were fine with them. What's the big deal?

They've probably already hired folks to come in and paint other areas, and it's cheaper to just have it done now. Seems silly, regardless.

To paint doors properly, they need to be removed and painted while laying down. Not sure what he is trying to do, but it's still not going to be done right
The tank should be fine. I painted my entire built-in right around my big tank and did half the staining around my 125 while it was running. I just vented the room well and made sure none got in the tank.

thanks everyone. I have no idea why they have to paint them but they do. I guess there is some kind of code they have to meet. Cool on the no sheet
