paint question??

my local lowes and home depot cant tell me a thing when it comes to painting glass..so, what kind of paint do you use to paint glass. they told me i would have to buy a primer, then the paint. well, they don't sell clear primer or any color primer that i would want my background to be. I have painted a small tank with spraypaint b4 but this is not an option fro my big tank. (dont want to gas the wife and kids out!!..LOL) So, is there a paint i can use to roll on the glass that will look ok, and not just smear when the roller hits the glass??

Krylon works well

if you want to make it even more durable you can get a product called Gripper by i forget who makes it.......its a primer of sorts made for helping paint stick to glass and slick metal surfaces.

the Krylon alone works good enough if we are just talking about painting your background

I used reguar old oil based roal on paint for every tank I've panted,.. worked great for me You will need a few coats to make it look nice though.

I have used the Krylon acrylic in the quart cans, using a 3" roller after cleaning the back of the tank well with Windex and then Isopropyl alcohol, applied several coats allowing to dry overnight (hot summer)

I painted my tank yesterday (there's a thread here somewhere) and I just used regular paint. I think it was Behr brand and I went with the 'sailboat' color. I didn't use any primer and I used a small roller to put it on. My main warning though: If you tape the edges of the tank, make sure you are either 1) very careful in not putting paint over the tape or 2) very careful in removing the tape. When I was taking tape off last night, the paint started peeling off in sheets and I had to push it back down. I ended up leaving some of the tape on for now, but I might take and exacto-knife to it later.
