Pagoda In Distress

Hello guys,
I just put in a pagoda coral in the tank 3 days ago, and he opened up a little bit the first day but since then he has not opened. I tried moving him around in the tank to see if he would be happier there, but this did not seem to make a difference. And yesterday the coral developed a black spot on one of the polyps in the center. Any advice guys? Thanks.

first of all it is on its side.

what kind of lighting do you have? they like a fair amount of light. i do not know if halides are needed, but it does need to be above 5w per gallon.

is there enough flow on the coral. cup corals are notorious for getting detritus stuck in the middle causeing die off from the center out.

what are your Ca and alk levels? these are really slow growing corals, but they do need good Ca and alk levels.

i have a cup coral that is many years old. right now it is two tiny little groups of polyps. i lost 99% of the colony a year ago. i fragged it and this is all that is left. within that year they coral may have grown a 1/4". really slow.

Okay well then I already have the problem solved, I only have 3.8watts per gallon. So I will take him out and bring him back to the fish store, I do not want the poor guy to die. Its odd though, becauce the guys who sold it to me is very knowledgable and he know my lighting situation. Oh well. Thanks for the speedy response!

I have a yellow one, on 410w VHO in my 100g tank, doing fine since I got him two months ago, he is close up top & slanted slightly as to keep clean!
