Oyster or clam?
This pic is not the best but I think it is an oyster but not sure! Has a really neat shell and has some new growth on it. You can see the openings to the critter(the two dark holes). Also new growth area on the shell(yellow) on each side of the dark holes. Shell has very wierd although neat ridges! To the bottom of the pic on the left hand side you can see a christmas tree worm as well. Really like this piece of LR!

Hmm, I would agree and say it is an oyster aswell. Pretty cool.

LOL Jay! I moved the oyster up a bit in the pic. It has a real rough looking shell with ridges sticking out. You can see the two flesh openings that are speckled. There are two small yellow areas by the openings that are new growth on the shell. May it will help!

I'm not sure about the oyster or clam, but I would really worry about that white void under your live rock. All you need is a spacial rift opening up in your tank, and your PH and salinity levels will never be the same again.

That white band is definatly due to calcium stratification, thats what happens when you don't mix it well and pour into stream of a phead, it builds up in unsightly layers like that

I've got a flat piece of rock with 5 of those guys on it. I always wondered if they were oysters or clams also. I caught a couple of them 'smoking' one night, and now I find little ones all the time (so does the bristle star ).

Well, we had a large one for many months in our fowlr and it was called a "spiny oyster". It would open a little and filter feed. It had long spines and was very alien-looking.
We didn't have the calcium problems, though.
