overflow vs. drilling

Just wondering why bother drilling a tank when you can just use an overflow box? is it not easier?

Do you mean a HOB overflow box??

The main reason is just the extra risk and worry of having a piece of equipment that could potentially fail and flood your floor

I have used HOB overflow boxes and took great care to set them up so they wouldnt fail and never had a problem with them, but a internal drain below the waer level is just a better way to go

Nobody will guarantee drilling a tank they didnt sell. Its standard practice. But most who have any experience will still galdly drill it for you and be comfortable doing so.

How can an overflow box flood? it takes water out the same way a drilled hole at the top of the tank does.

It is more to flood than a drilled tank because this siphon U tube that most of them have can get clogged and or lose its siphon. This will cause what ever water is left in your sump to get pumped up into the tank and then flood over the rim of the tank.

Drilled tank is less likely to do so because it is gravity feed to the sump not by siphon.

if you are talking about a INTERNAL overflow box that inside it has a drain hole drilled into the tank.......then it is no different.

I think we all assumed you meant a HOB overflow box.
