Overflow to Sump
Being this will be my first DIY project in a very long time. I need some help doing this.
I have a 54Gal corner piece that I has no oveflow and no sump. I want to create/build an overflow and sump. I know the technical aspects of building and science. But, is there a diagram I can clone to make an overflow and sump? And will it cost more than jusy buying one of these?

You may want to look in the DIY part of TRT.

Are you willing to drill the tank?

I am with reefboy.. You will be much happier drilling if you can do it or canget it done... Then you have a gravity feed and do not have to mess with syphins...

Have you actually built one of these? It looks complicated, this coming from someone that has built several overflows from catch cups and pvc as well as from scratch

Not yet, in the next couple weeks, but it looks pretty simple, cheap and straight fwd to me.

I see that it has a provision for priming, I wonder how it handles power off situations

the siphon breaks at the bottom of the slots, and restart automaticaly when water is added back above the slot. You only need to prime it once, or every time you take it out.

getting full flow out of it is my only concern with this design. i think the outer tube should be bigger. if you look at the overflow calculator there needs to be 5" of linear overflow length to support 350gph. this equates to a 3/4" drain tube diameter. that means you will need an outer tube diameter of 2" in order to get enough linear flow. 1.75" pipe would also work, but i have not seen this anywhere.

I'm building one this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes with pics included. I just need to know how to build the part that goes inside the water.
