Overflow plumbing??

I am currently setting up a 125 gallon AGA aquarium with overflows. The overflows come with barbed fitting for hose installation. Where do I buy the 1" hoses and do I need clamps.

Also, is it better to hard pipe the drain piping and use valves for control???
Are there hoses with threaded fittings or are the slip over ones sufficient and do not leak?

Thanks,
Alex

You can get the hose at Home Depot and use clamps,I use the pvc hard pipe myself I like it better with the valves.

You can get the hose at any home improvement place, usually cheaper than at LFS, with barb fittings it should be tight enough that you dont need clamps. Even Stainless Steel clamp will rust in a marine environment. There are plastic clamps out there but they are hard to find and size specific.
I would go with the tubing to start, its quick and cheap, you may want to replump later, if you hard plumb you will need an appropriate pipe nipple to adapt a threaded or slip fitting for the pvc pipe.
On a drilled overflow you shouldnt need a valve on the drain

Ah, I used to have an assortment of those plastic clamps with the grippy teeth you squeeze down tight, they are used alot on oxygen generators, but I never see them in HD or Lowes

I'm going to have (2) sump tanks. (1) external, which will be 16x20 and one ten gallon under the stand. External sump will be used for skimmer and probes. Didn't have enough real estate under the stand to put everything under it. That's why I wondered if valves would be good to divert more or less flow to skimmer sump. No filter bags will be used. Only a coarse sponge to keep bubbles minimized.

Are there any quick disconnect hoses available?

Doug the plastic ties work good also, you know they use them for handcuffs also. Hd has them and I use them and when I tighten them down with the pliers in a rolling motion you can not get them off .

Quick dissconect in the garden section at HD plastic ones I have seen for 3/4 " hose might work.

Dont know of any quick connects that would easily work. You can tee the line to drain into sepearte sumps, ball valves might bo OK for that, the more expensive gate valves offer finer adjustment tho. If you are going that route you migh want to increase the drail line size by at least one size up, ie 1.5"

Yea could, hummm I think thats why I hard plumb and use the true unions with ball valves easy to unconnect. You know they need to make quick connects for plastic tubing in general.
