out, out %$# Majano
How in the world do I get rid of the confounded Majano in my tank? I've read some and gotten some advice, but I'd like to know what others have tried.
It's been in my tank to a lesser degree for sometime, but lately it's been on a take -over campaign. And because it's so close to a pair of leathers, and a trumpet, I'm reluctant to use chemical means.
Ideas?

Do you have any polyps or feather dusters in your tank that you care deeply about? If not, maybe a Copperband Butterfly? Although I'd wait for another opinion. Sorry

Cath, Kalk in a syringe,,you could try warming the kalk first also,,inject the body with kalk, then put some on the body , if it still can be seen after injection,,.the one's i inject ,NEVER come back! just be careful with the Kalk, you don't want to add to much kalk too soon in the tank,,,,let us know how you do,,,
PS: thicker the better on the Kalk mixture,,,

Hi Cath, I tried everything to get rid of them in my tank. Peppermints, kalk paste, boiling water, chemicals....they just kept coming back and worse each time until my whole tank was brown and covered with them. I got a copper banded butterfly... worked beautifully, nice fish. I can live without feather dusters in order to have a beautiful reef free of the nasty anemones. Good luck. Julie

I too have the dreaded problem......I have been injecting them with boiling water.......once a week I take 15 min and just inject all that I can see.....they never come back.......seems to work well, but I'm sure there will always be one or two around that I miss......its CONTROL not CURE......but having a few isn't a biggie
I just use a 20cc syringe with a 20g needle......boil some water...suck it up, go to the tank, find one of the little buggers....plunge the needle into him and squirt....you can see them melt away into chunks

Thanks for the help, everyone!
My tank is a 29, would a copper-banded work in there?
and yes! I do have a lovely dark grey featherduster ;-( Just about my fave hidey thing in the tank.

the copperband might be worth a try if you can find one about 3" and make a deal to return it in say a month or so, possibly to trade on something more compatable with your tank . The 29 isnt big enough to keep one long term. Otherwise you may have to do a water change, save the old water as a rinse and remove one rock at a time and paste or inject the little varmints, rinse in old water and return to the tank

Thanks for the added info, Tom and Doug.
Before all this was posted, I talked to Jon via IMs, and he kinda talked me through some options. I engaged in some stop-gap measures by taking out the small rock that the trumpet is on, and zapped the buggers with kalk paste, then swished it in SW, and put it back in it's spot in the tank.
Beacause the aiptasia and majano is so pervasive, I have to be careful how much kalk I use at any one treatment. Soooo...I did just a little hear and there in the tank. But I also did the boiled water (I used purified FW) and zapped the varmints closest to the leathers.
I rather think that I will get a copperband (about 3" in size) and let him graze. Then I'll let Tom keep him in his tank. We can trade off every so often.
Hmm...now I wonder what the single fish, an unidentified wrasse, will think of the copperband? Encroaching on his territory??
Comments, pleze
