OT: on a lighter note.....

just to avoid having everyone think that *only* bad things seem to happen to me, i'd like to share with you a nice thing that happened to me the day my tank was assaulted...

see, my tank was killed on my son's 7th birthday, june 5th (yes, we're gemini twins, he was *due* on my birthday, but came out 3 days late)

after bawling my eyes out for most of the day, i realized my ride was coming to go up & see him (he lives 1 & 1/2 hours away.) i actually DROVE FOR THE FIRST TIME ON A ROAD for the last 1/2 hour of the trip...

jasper had no idea i was coming and when i showed up i thought he was gonna fall over! he ran & gave me the biggest hug & said "MOM!! you made it just in time!! SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS IS ON! we haven't watched it together in SO LONG!!" (you see, it was always our favorite show to watch together )

so we watched spongebob & had a grand time. then he asked if we could go outside so he could show me some tricks he can do on his scooter.

i lit up a ciggarette & he looked over & said "mom you still smoke? smoking is a bad habit"
i said "jasper, i know. yer totally right. i have alot of bad habits."
he looked at me & said "i know you do. but you are a really good mother."

i was FLOORED!! he's only 7 years old!! how did he know to say such a sweet thing? after all the times i was accused of being "unfit" by the courts, and he KNEW to let me know i am a good mother.

oh, and he *really* likes marine stuff...his nickname is "fishboy" at school...is that my kid or what?? LOL!!

I am not going to get on you about smoking, I used to smoke a lot. You prob will change your ways on of these days, but that is great to hear about your son.

I say, if it takes a cigarette to keep you sane in this world, then like you said, you could be doing a lot worse!

From one who used to smoke a pack a day and is now down to 5 packs (not cartons-packs) per year ('cause I like a smoke now n then!).

Smoking: To me it is terrible! My wife developed lung cancer from 30 years of heavy smoking! She lost 2/3 of her right lung and then spend 24 days in intensive care and almost died about 3 times/maybe more as I was not all there at times!
They took all the oxygen from her muscles to save her other organs and when she came out of her deep sleep, she panicked as she could not move at all because of severe loss of muscle mass! She had three machines with tubes coming out of her rib cage on both sides and draining fluids as her lungs were so bad and they were filling up and surrounding the air sacs and she was having a very hard time breathing!
She was fighting the breathing machine so they put her under again for several days to let her body heal and recover. After that a decision had to be made whether to send her to rehab or put her in a rest home for the remainder of her days. Thank God, the head man at Rehab said she had a strong will and mind and was a good candidate for Rehab.
How true that Doc was in saying my wife had a strong will, because in 10 DAYS I walked my wife out of Rehab and brought her home. Even after being home, she has had her colon burst twice and fill her stomach with the contents and she almost died on both occasion with the second time the doc said she was very sick and did not give much hope. I believe these episodes are a result of being on chemo for a long time. When Pat lost her hair she was heart broken but she never gave up. She said dieing would be easy but leaving loved ones behind would be hard!
My wife today is free of cancer to this point but it has taken its toll as she has slowed down alot and breathing is hard at times! I don't jump on anyone for smoking as God gave us a free will and we do what we want with it but for me there is no doubt that smoking caused her these terrible times and the choice she made many years ago! It is why I quit smoking over 10 years ago and why I would not want anyone to go through what my wife and family have gone through. It is simply not worth it! Just wanted to share a true story! Johnny

P.S. SP I am glad you had some special moments with your son!
