Congratulations Drew. You're going to need a bigger tank though.

Hey Drew,
That's neat! Through which organization/program did you adopt your whale? Please tell us the details.

The sponsers are Healthy Planet and Earth Island Institute. It came with a Orca poster, adopption certifict, Orca stickers, and a booklet of facts about Orcas. It was fifteen dollars.

Kewl Drew, Orcas are my favoite cetaceans. I was going to go to Washington one year and get a chance to swim with a pod of Orcas in the wild, but the trip was canceled due to a co-workers injury. Another friend of mine made the trip and brought back video. To this day I regret missing out on the experience

Doug,
What a missed opportunity! That would be fantastic.

I've never gotten to see Orcas in the wild but never miss the chance to see them at Sea World. Some say that these shouldn't be in such shows but public awareness and interest in these magnificent animals is heightened through the popularity of the shows.

"Free Willy" is one of our favorite movies but the real story of that whale's captivity was a sad story.

My favorite cetacean, too. I have always thought they were one of the most majestic animals in the sea.

Drew,
Any details on how to get in touch with them so I can find out more about it? I would love to tell my wife we need a 100,000 gallon tank

About 18 months ago I was diving off from Spyglass in Pacific Grove. Just offshore from Pt Pinos, we sited a pod. They were hunting some migrating California grey whales. In 8 foot swells we were driving the boat like kids driving a car in a church parking lot. We chased the pod all over the place so we could view a kill. But we didn't get to see one. The whales all dove deep to avoid the orca trap. What an outstanding adventure though. The orcas were magnificant.
