Opinions on this sump *pics*

This will be 48" long and 24" front to back. The first part is a bubble tower. The large part is a refugium. The sump will be external I think. I may put it in but who knows.

Ya, that's a pretty nice drawing. What did you draw it with? Yes the baffles look too close. I think you should just go for a sump and skip the refugium. That sump is as big as my tank, what size tank it going under?

Where is your skimmer going???

I agree with loverotties that the baffles are too close. 2 inches in between and two inches under the "under" baffles is good spacing.

I find its good to put the first baffle after you rskimmer a little higher than the rest so the water hieght in the skimmer section never changes.

Is that bubble tower for your drain or skimmer output on a externally run skimmer??

of course i am going to ask, why on earth would you want a refugium?

what skimmer is going in there? the baffles look to tall also for most skimmers.

I should have specified. The baffle heights I did not do. I just drew them in. I did put them 1 inch apart but I will do 2 inches. I wasn't sure how far to put them apart. The skimmer will be an aqua C ev240. It will be before the baffles. When I build this I will make sure I leave room in case I put the skimmer in the sump. The bubble tower will be for the returns and a return if the skimmer is external.

Why aren't you a fan of refugiums. I like growing algae in there. It seems to really have helped me.

i just feel that if algae is able to grow there, than it will also be able to grow anywhere.

it also makes it harder to get the detritus out. i like to leave it empty that way i can tell when i am siphoning out all of the detritus. the sump is the only place i siphon now.

I am going to use a CS8-3 Euro-Reef Skimmer. I am thinking of making this 16" High. How high Should I run the water in the first chamber and in the second?
