open brain / candy cane

I went to the LFS today and bought a small open brain & a candy cane coral. They were $21.00 a piece. The candy cane is a green w/ red color, and the brain is a greenish color too. They were in a tank with stuff "going out" too, so I chose to rescue these ones. The candy cane has a few dead spots where its just the skeleton, but the other heads were good looking. The lfs employee said I can break off the dead ones. I'll take pics once they are acclimated.

This is gonna seem like the most dumbest question, but I thought they were fleshy, not stoney? I think I saw its mouth open up when I put it in the tank, because there was a little slit like a mouth, but its closed. When's the best time to feed?

Also, about the candy cane: should I just leave the dead heads alone? Will they regrow themselves?

Johnny, do you need to even feed the open brain. I had a red one for about 5 months and he got really big. I never tried to feed him. I sold him and a cup coral to a reefer friend since I am taking down my 38.

Your right hooked! I guess I was thinking of my fungia plate coral! Open Brain do not need direct feeding but I have read that a feeding of shrimp once or twice a month is a good idea! My mistake! Johnny

I just noticed something with my candy cane! One of the heads that was dead @ the lfs ......... it seems to have come back to life! A dead one, I am assuming has turned to a brownish color, correct? Well, it's the color of the candy cane, which is the red/green color! Let's hope the others come back to life, too!!!!!
