slow way down, dude. you should approach reefing at a "patient" pace. dont know how old your tank is but you should wait atleast 6-8 months before putting in $100+ pieces of coral. if you do, they might die in 1-3 months.
so my advice to you is to go slow and research, research, research before you buy anything.....and limit your additions to 1-2 corals a month.
or.... go crazy & burnup a bunch of your cash only to have to restock by this August.

good to see that I'm not the only one is Mass. who has a salt tank.
There is a LFS in Quincy in a basement shop who has a pretty good selection. I found him trustworthy as he helped me set up my tank and has not just taken my cash.
I have a small reef tank and get 90% of my corals there.

I too was gung-ho... HAD 10 fish in a 55g within first 2 months. LFS loved to see me coming. got ich. all dead now. take it REAL SLOW. I did buy 10 zoa frags from vividaquarium. No problems-will order from them again, but will do my homework first (while I wait 8 weeks for the ich to die off). BTW this site is the best place for research. Experience is the best teacher & ya'll are all scholars in my book!!!

I have bought from a few places. But specifically E-bay. I have only had a bad experience once. The item was not as described, it was still nice and it was for 10 heads of zoo's and the guy sent about 40. And he agreed to give me a refund, so it wasn't that bad. I did wind up keeping them, because they were still nice, just not what was pictured. But that was only once out of about 20. I always check the feedback, and only buy wysiwyg. Some people will try to call things superman this and sunset that, but they are usually fake. But they are cheap and still look nice, so if you just want nice looking coral and don't care it not being real (superman monti) or anything its O.K. But if you do want stuff will the real name I would go somewhere else.

I hope you have a better experience. Their website looked great, but after probably fifteen mail order experiences with livestock everyone elses stuff arrrived alive, except for Liveaquaria with a starfish missing an arm. It was credited on the spot towards my next order. Aquacon was a disaster for me, but as they say your mileage may vary.

lol that's a rip off.. but hey, cheer up because you are not alone, all LFS makes $ out of us, it just depends on how fast they wanna rip you off.. i believe web surfing will help you to minimize the cost of paying extra money..

Haven't personally shopped them but I haven't heard anything bad about them from others who have. I recognize some of their pieces from a California wholesaler that we sometimes order from and the corals are truly top notch. You can tell from the pics that they aren't photoshopped or taken under extreme actinic lighting. The fact that they take the time to post of pic of the actual coral that you are buying is a strong selling point for me.

You're right about the picture. But dang, the fact that they have too-good-to-believe discounts is kinda scary too.. they are now running a 50% off and i even remember they have some kinda sale where you buy $150+ you get a clam for $10..
