Unhappy

OMG!!!!!! How could this happen???????

I am so sad and confused!!!!!!OK, I have a good mystery for everyone today.... Last night I did my usual late night inspection and everyone was fine... Nemo and Marlin were doing their usual hosting of the filter return and Scooter was happily searching for his dinner, and Spot , the best Tiger Watchman Goby in the world, was busy making is bed in his favorite cave. He came up to the glass and we did our usual staredown and into his cave he went. Fast forward to this morning.....I go to feed them and open up the tank stand to get out the food and THERE ON THE FLOOR behind the stand lay SPOT DEAD!!!!! NOw, let me give a little more info... I have the Eclipse hood with enclosed all in one lighting and filtration. All enclosed and completely cover tank top. How in the world could this happen????? I have had this fish since March and have NEVER even seen him swim up to the top of the tank...and even if he did it is all covered!! So... this is a sad day. I loved that fish, he was my first addition to the tank and from the minute I put him in he went about setting up his home. He loved it! I hate to think of him laying on the floor at some point last night struggling for air!! Please help me try and figure this out...

Sad and confused,
Jenni

I am so sorry to hear about Spot. I know exactly what you mean by the thought of our pets struggling on the floor when we arn't there to save them. As for how he got there, I can't answer. Was he small enough to fit throught the small slit in the back for the power cords?

Hi Jeremy,

thanks for your condolences... Yes he was small enough but I have NEVER EVER seen him any where NEAR the top of the tank. And with all the cords and whatnot going through those tiny openings, it doesn't leave much room. He would have had to of been plotting his escape for a long time to get through them I think. also, I want to add: water parameters are fine, nothing new added for about a month, no predetors.

Its a sad day...

Jenni Oh PS Jeremy, I am originally from Wichita, and getting ready to drive there next weekend for a visit!!

I'm sorry about Spot.

I had a space maybe an inch square in an other-wise covered tank, with cords etc. in that space. When I lost the 1st fish I thought the odds on that happening again were just so slim, I didn't have to worry about it. After the second jumper a couple of months later, I cut some nylon screening to cover the hole.

Did any of your other fish have reason to do Spot in? Sorry, don't mean to make light of your loss, I always feel down after losing a fish. Hope you figure out how it happened. Condolences......
