Old Sea Shells

My wife has a few old sea shells (conk shells?)

She was asking me if they could go in the aquarum for decoration.

Is there any reason the could not?

I figure I would I scrub them good and mabie even put them in with my live rock that is curing it should be ok.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

no, don't put them in.

old shells dissolve over time and as they dissolve the release phosphate back into the water. the only shells i allow in the tank are the ones being worn by the crabs and the ones the snails are growing... and then drop new ones in for the crabs sometimes.

i don't recommend it.

Yep .. and make sure they were not coated with any chemicals to preserve or make them look shiny.

I find small ones on the shores and add them for the crabs. Just a good rinsing in clean water is all I do.
