ok, need help

please bear with me, as I still haven't gotten a proper pic out of my Camera. just an hour ago, I discovered a patch of "flesh" growing on the underside of one of my rocks....this rock has been in my tank for 2 yrs. the patch is snow white, and not flimsy. or whispy.. it is about 1/8 of an inch thick, and when I took it out of the tank, it seemed to "deflate" slightly. it is only the size of a dime. is it possible that it hasn't flourished because when I got the rock, I placed it in upside-down? is it possible for something like that to survive for 2 yrs without light? I havn't purchesed any new rocks, so it's not a hitchiker.

Prolly a sponge. They tend to appear out of nowhere in places that are low light. Colors vary from white to neon green, pinks, blues, and just about everything else. Just stick it back in there where it was, and celebrate tank diversity.

(Even though sponges aren't supposed to be out of the water, it will probably be fine.)
