Ok I am confused?? HELP
I spoke to a few LFS because I need to buy a big tank.
They both told me 180 g or 225 gallons to fit on my stand....
One used AGA glass and the other was perfecto.
One guy told me he could get me a 180 with overflows for $450.00
The next guy told me his was $750.00
"WTF MAN" That is what I said to him. HE told me the other guy might be cheaper because his tank did not have tempered bottom glass, and then I remembered that you can't drill tempered glass (I think)
Anyway can anyone provide me with insight before I order ???????

your right, you cant drill tempered, if the others is cheaper because the bottom isnt tempered, where was the other guys tank drilled? in the back?

They both claimed to be drilled in the bottom.
Here is a question what should a AGA or Perfecto 180 glass with overflows cost for just tank ??????

Ok obviously $450 is a great price nad I am not goign to be upset with that, but I do not want to run into cheap or thing glass or anything that has DISASTER potential..
So cheap is good up to a point I dont want to be unsafe???
and with so little knowledge on the subject it is a little 'fishy'

Well all glass is a good name brand, but perfecto isnt bad either. Perfecto is sorta high grade kinda like oceanic thats probly why there is a price difference, and if the bottom is drilled with no cracks or anything then why worry if its tempered or not? I would personally go after the 450 dollar one, because its cheaper, its drilled, and basically the same, just has "tempered bottom" but im sure if its drilled there then it shouldnt have one, and no LFS is gonna risk drilling a tempered bottom tank, so my guess would be its glass. Hope this helps

It does a little sometimes you just need encouragement...
So $450 isn't so cheap that I should worry that it is crappy glass or will burst in a month (eek) ????

It is AGA so I am not too worried and a guarentee when you have 180 gallons of water in your living room is not terribly comforting
Lol I think I am going to buy from the $450 guy..
He is the most freindly of all the LFS

oh and to answer your question about 450 being cheap and probly be poorly made...i wouldnt worry to much about that, usually when a pet store or any other store, warehouse, etc...buys in bulk then they can sell alot cheaper, since they get a discount buying it. Either that or they have some sort of deal going with the tank company but either way you should be in the all clear.

Oh that reminds me He said I could get a 225 because hte stand is still 72 x 24
(It is not much more and this may be my chance to upgrade tank size)
My question is this can an AGA pine stand built for 180 SAFELY hold a 225 ?????????????????????

im sure it could, but try and get some sort of gurantee from the Local fish store employee or the manager, oh and try and get this gurantee on paper, so that "IF" something goes wrong and you end up with 225 gallons of water on the floor, you have someone to turn to, but i dont see a problem, my dad is a contractor as well as a structural engineer and he says wood is a lot stronger then it looks, so if your stand looks well built i see no problem, but if you wanna put an end to your worries, try and add some 4X4 supports in the stand, best place would be in the corners. hope this helps

oh, and if i were you and i had the cash for the 225 i would definantly go for it or else you will be hating yourself. Good luck with whatever you decide. but beware that if you go bigger make sure you have the proper equipment to go with it.
