Sorry I cant help you other than to say that I have the hard type and soft type. The ones that are hard are slow growing and the soft ones are taking over my tank.

Most hydroid colonies are non-intrusive and will wither out with lack of foods. If you are feeding baby brine shrimp, cyclops, or other smallish fare, reduce that foodstuff. If you don't rinse frozen foods, do so. If you have smallish seahorses or other small reef critters, then worry, otherwise, they should collapse on their own without "opportunistic" feeding.
If it is a real problem; they're out of control, you do have dwarf seahorses, or small reef fish that could be stung into irritation, you could treat the rock with Panacur. Personally, any med or chemical treatment should be the last resort.

no livestock and no feeding. The tank has just recently finished its cycle.

There's also a nudibranch that eats them....if they are a concern.
