oh no! disaster strikes

i was rearanging my tank setup at work and went to move the chiller to a better location, and replace the tubing with better quality hose and BAM water started going everywhere! one of the plastic barbs leading into the machine snapped off! after stopping the water from pumping out into the floor and retopping off the tank. i went to lowes to atempt to find stuff to fix it.. its going to require some modifications, but i am thinking of adding screw on pvc connectors , so i can unhook the lines from the chiller much easier.. i'll photo log the proccess

I have used both the liquid and the solid two part epoxies from loctite.

They are fine. Both types are in both of my tanks. I didnt use them for plastic though...I used them on rocks.

sorry to hear of your troubles

what chiller do you have and what size is the fitting?? It would take a couple days, but Im pretty sure I have the thread-barb fittings you need sitting here somewhere

If you can find sonme weldon #40 it can fix your breaks. 16 may work as well but I would prefer and recommend #40

thanks for the offer fly, its a pac imports cl85 and the barb was molder onto the water tank not a seperate piece that screws into the tank. i got some aqua mend

new screw on adaptors are heavily aqua mended over oldd screw bases of the broken barb (sawed off remaining original barb so it will be even.
then theres a 3 part water proof coupling that screws down over it (use plumber sealant to make sure no leaks.)
new longer thicker barb screws into top of coupling. (with sealant)
when i need to move it or do maintanance, the coupling screws apart so i don't have to screw or unscred the hoseclamps.

hope this all works.. when the aqua mend cures i will put it all together till then i play team fortress!

(unless they start leaking!)

That looks like a pretty good repair job. Hopefully everything will hold up and you will be good to go now.
