Cool

off-topic: RWD/Chicago-area folks

This is totally off topic, but you "dog" aficionados out there might be able to relate.

I am looking for the little green semi-hot peppers that are a big part of what makes up a "Chicago style dog". (Someone told me the term was "dragging the dog through the garden" but I am ignorant of the Chicago area hot dog vernacular )

Are those peppers sold in jars/cans on the shelf in the Chicago area or does someone know of an online vendor that sells them? Does anyone know the name of those peppers? They just are not to be found out here.

Thanks for any info!

Alice

Alice:

We're going to have to sign you up for Pepper Addicts Anonymous! Isn't a trip to the Dog House every few weeks enough?

Alice,
I love those little peppers they put on hot dogs! I don't know their "official" name but we call them sport peppers. They are sold as sport peppers in all the local stores. BTW, here are some other local favorites:

If you can't find them online then drop me an e-mail and I'll send you some. Bob

LOL Deb; I have to drop by there once in a while to get my fix

Thanks Bob! The link you posted had info about the peppers, now I have a place to start! If I can't find them, I'll take you up on your offer.

"Chicago-Style Hotdogs"

Ohhh Mannnnn!!!!!!

One of the ultimate sausage experiences that our species has to offer to ANY visiting alien. I'm talking about highlight achievements of the human race!

The best Chicago-style 'dog I had was, curiously enough, at the Brookefield Zoo. IMHO (in my hungry opinion) Chicago's hotdog sandwiches beat the whiney crap out of those impoverished wannabe 'dogs sold in NYC, or even anything on the Continent, from Burgos to Bavaria to Budapest.

Don't even get me started on Chicago-style Pizza!!!

Woooo-hooooooo!!!!!
Watch horge pig out!!!
Watch his wife confiscate all food to 'save him', only to eat it herself!!!

Hee heee.
Chi-town, get those juicy badboys ready, cause I'm a-comin over!!!!

Horge,
If your up for an adventure I'll take you to the place that sells the original Maxwell street Polish sausage with grilled onions and mustard. They also sell a great pork chop sandwich. Open 24/7 we used to make the trip after a night out Mario's Italian Ice up on Taylor st. is also a good stop on a summer night. They must have 100 different flavors of shaved ice made with real fruit

I think the sport peppers are also called sweet peppers, at least the street vendor I got mine from all the time called them that.

Bob, if you are taking Horge on a culinary tour of Chicago, we will have to take him to Pizza Uno and Lou Malnati's.
