i've also heard a lot of bad things about oddysea. i have one of their skimmers running right now, and it's not terrible, but the quality is lacking.

i live very close to thier wearhouse here in the bay area, and walking around in there doesn't make me feel any better about their products.

I heard read the same so far. Most of the negative input was from the MH lights. Ballasts melting Noisy fans.ect.

In the past, they got some bad reviews with their reliability and safety. Lately, I have only been seeing good reviews on their lighting system on RC. People have taken apart the fixtures and checked the wiring (they had a reputation for catching fire) and found it to be well made and designed. As with anything with mixed reviews, be careful with what you buy and make sure you look it over well before using.

I have a 60" 3 MH set and I like them thus far. Only had them about 2 month though. Electronic ballast, 2 fans in the fixture, and 4 pc supplements. only thing is the ballast get warm unless they have a fan on them in the cabnet. laying out in the open they stay pretty cool. either way they aren't too hot to touch at any point and there isnt any flickering at startup.

I would just stay away from any of their fixtures that don't use common MH bulbs. I know of people that have their 175W fixture and it used DE 175's. No one makes them so limited choice on bulbs. If I recall some people were sticking 150W bulbs in these fixtures with success.

The older fixtures did have some reports of fires so I would make sure it is new or fairly new.

I would personally go with a more popular brand that there are bulb performance results for as far as PAR levels. Helps if you ever want to change bulbs. http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/
