I am looking to upgrade the lighting in my tank. I have a 36 gallon corner bow-front tank with the factory lighting on it right now. I would like to start putting some basic, easier to keep corals in my tank. I've read about MH lights, and quite honestly don't have the money for them right now, and am scared to even have them due to the fire hazard I've read about. I've found a 24'' 2X65W (new 2008 model) Odyssea light for a pretty good price. Problem is that I have been reading that they are a fire hazard. I'm unsure if people are only referring to the MH, or if the 2X65W lights would be a fire hazard as well with this unit. I'm thinking that it probably wouldn't be, since these aren't real high wattage bulbs. Can anyone help me with this?
I don't know a lot about saltwater tanks, I've kinda learned by trial and error and asking questions at my fish store. I've had my tank up and running for about 1 1/2 years, and seems to be doing fine. Right now I have 30 lbs. of live rock, 1 maroon clown, 1 singapore angel (which I introduced about 1 month ago), 2 Chromis, and 3 damsels, some snails, hermit crabs and 2 anenomes (I had an eel goby, that my singapore angel killed the other day by biting at it, and mysteriously a week before that my
scooter blenny, that I had for about 9 months disappeared--I'm thinking the singapore angel killed that too). I'm using a jebo
protein skimmer (which I seem to have issues with getting the water flow right so that the cup on top doesn't fill with water immediately when my tank is completely full-it seems to work fine when I have about 2 gallons of water less in the tank) and a filter that is run usually in freshwater tanks...can't tell you what the brand is-- Any other suggestions for me? Anything would help
