Octopus EXT 200 or Vertex 180

I narrowed down to these two skimmers and can't decide which one to purchase. They are basically the same price. Which one do you recommend? Thanks

I don't think you can go wrong w/ either, they are both great values for the money. I like the Vertex because it is very easy to adjust and find the 'right' spot, I find mine very quiet, which I like, and finally, I don't need any mod's to improve the performance.

Do Octopus skimmers require mods to improve performance?

That's a tough question to answer. No skimmer requires mods, but sometimes the functionality/performance aren't as good as you could be getting. The Octo has some good mod options that can make it an even bettter performer. I got tired of modding my older skimmer, that was another reason I went to the Vertex, plug and play right out of the box.

You can always wrap fishing line around your impeller to help with cutting up the bubbles. on any needle wheel skimmer...ANY. It just depends on how well it performs out of the box. I LOVE my Octopus DNW110. I tried a mesh mod and burnt out the pump....so I got a new pump and left it alone.....and it works great. I had it hooked up side by side with my remora.......for two weeks (while the octopus was breaking in) and the octopus out performed the Remora. Either way you will be happy, as they are both awesome skimmers.
