Oceanic Trickle Filter 75 Plus Series?

I was wondering if anybody has ever used one of these wet/dry/trickle filters before? LFS had taken one off of there 58RR to install a Ecosystems refugium on his tank, and made me a great deal on it and a cpr skimmer w/rio600. I paid $75 used, and was hoping I got a good deal. I have seen similar products online (skimmer 125-150, and same size sumps and wet/drys for 200+). Just wondering if anybody had used one of these before, and if there were any ideas as to making part of it into a DIY refugium, adding live sand or miracle mud and caluerpa into part of it. Plan on leaving bio balls out also. Let me know if anybody has any ideas/opinions/experience on this matter.
