Oceanic sumps drillable?

I have an oceanic 20 gallon sump. I need to move my skimmer back into the sump, but still want to have my collection cup drain into a 5 gallon container, so I don't have to empty it every day.

Anyone know if the glass on the oceanic sumps are drillable?

also...what's the harm in having the drain line (from my skimmer) just go out into the yard? pro's? con's?

Any glass that is used for tanks is drillable, would of course want to use the diamond bits as they are faster, would just take the sump to any decent glass shop and have them do it though.

I got a glass drill bit from the hardware store. pretty sure it's not diamond...but I'm patient...so I'll be fine.

I only need to drill a 1/4" hole, just enough to fit some tubing through.

I'm not sure how true this is.

Tempered glass will shatter when drilled, correct?

Output going to the yard?
Won't the salt content kill plants?
(Just asking, I don't know for sure either)....hmmm, maybe I could use it to keep the weeds down...

I'd actually heard that the nutrient rich skimmate help fertilize the plants.

But like you, I have no idea what the salt would do.

either way...to answer my subject line...YES, they are drillable..

or at lease MINE is, cause I just put a nice hole in it!

NOT ALL AQUARIUM GLASS IS DRILLABLE. If you drill through the bottom of a tempered glass tank you better have a second tank because the glass will shatter. Most sides of a tank can be drilled as long as your carefull as the sides are not usually temperered. Not sure if the skimmate will kill plants because of the salt or help them because of the "crap".
