Oceanic or All-Glass reef ready tanks
Does anyone think that there is really any difference between Oceanic's and All-Glass's reef ready tanks? Looks like they both advertise as having MegaFlow overflows. Is one better than the other?

Oceanic is a Cadilac and the All-Glass is a Chevy. Both are made by the same company. Both are good tanks. The Oceanic is better. Usually thicker glass, nicer stands, etc.

I have had my oceanic 110 up and running for 8 years with no problems. It has also been moved once. Spend the extra money. Go with the Oceanic.....

Thanks much, guys. That's what I wanted to hear. I'm leaving right now to go pick up an Oceanic RR 70 gal. The adventure begins!

Keep in mind that the better Oceanic Warrenty applies if you put it on an Oceanic stand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to be a bum... but i prefer acrylic. I have yet to see a glass company give a lifetime warranty on a tank. that speaks volums to me.

all glass currently owns oceanic
i just made the same debate myself and i went oceanic. it's a bit more, but ultimatley i think worth it.
Perfecto is only other major glass aquarium company and their overflow system is not as good...but that is beyond the scope.

the mega overflows onthe AGA is rated at 600gph. check on the Oceanic .
but what size tank are you thinking? if you go big might want to think acrylic. you can drill it a lot betrer and you have what .. half the weight or so..

When you exceed the standard 120g tank acrylic starts to be competitive $ wise, then there is the light weight and ease of drilling for custom setups, they do scratch easier but glass isn't immune to that problem either.
If you have an acrylic tank built and the mfgr knows you are going to drill it, you are prolly OK but I suspect that a tank failure on a commercial acrylic tank thats been drilled is going to be a nightmare to get replaced

Just as a point of information.... there is some misinformation in this thread.
All-Glass is in Wisconsin, Oceanic is in Texas. Both are separate companies and operate independently of one another.
Central Garden and Pet OWNS both All-Glass and Oceanic (as well as Coralife/ESU, Kent Marine, Kaytee and others).
Oceanic is a higher end manufacturer, and higher dollar. AGA is excellent quality in its own right, just not quite as high-end as Oceanic. Mega Flows are similar - they share the technology.

I don't know that Oceanic tanks are any better as far as the basic stuff goes. They are nicer fit & finish wise and you can get a custom tank from them (if you wanted Starfire or something). I've seen some really messy looking AGA tanks as far as the silicone goes and others that have nice clean silicone beads.
I didn't know much about the differences when I bought my AGA 75 gallon RR. After doing some research I'm sure my AGA tank will be more than satisfactory.
The only thing I don't like about my AGA oak stand is that I wish it was just a little taller.

I agree with you on the stand heights, AnemicOak. Not ony AGA, but most others that I've seen, just too short. BTW, I got the Oceanic RR 70 gal. Thank you all for all of the input. So that was just my first purchase, so many, many more to go. I'm taking this slow and deliberate, I will be bothering y'all for some time until this is up and running

Brian I have to disagree with the finish on Oceanic.I have a friend that does tank maintance and setups and only after a couple times waxing the finish on the oceanic that the color finsh starts to break down and AGA never has done that.
