Nutri Seawater
Anyone ever use this product?
www.naturesocean.com I read a article about in FAMA, and it claims to have 11,000,000 bacteria per gallon. Also its all pre-mixed so no missing around mixing water for water changes. I have a small 29G tank and I figure this stuff would really be good for me. It also contains the regular trace elements that synthetic water has... I geuss it is natural seawater with trace elements and the plankton added.. has anyone tried this product and been using it for a while? what has been the good/bad things to happen etc...

I have heard good reports about it, The cost is a factor, But for a smaller tank and You can spend the money I think that is a good way to go, I change 30 gallons a week right now and will be more in the future. I can't be spending that kind of cash.

I've used it once. Within a day or two of adding it, one of my bangaii cardinals died. Of course, I'm sure it had nothing to do with the Nutri-Sea. It was only a 10% water change. The LFS owner (whom I trust whole-heartedly) swears by the stuff. He says that he's seen tremendous coral growth when the Nutri-Sea water is used. I only used it once to do a 10% water change, so this reply was probably of no help whatsoever to you.

I us a product like it www.catalinawater.com It's like the same thing but cheaper and works great!Everything is bigger more open and since I do a 10% a week change I don't need to add anything except Kalk to my top off.It has all the rite traces in it so to me It's cheeper and easyier .I don't have to remember when to add Iodine one day Strotium anougher day etc...this you get 5gal instead of the 4.4 you get with Nuti-sea and it's bin around a long time on the west coast!Check it out!Your fish and Coral will thank you!by there size and color increase!

Sorry to butt in I have a 24 gallon Nano cube and the LFS I bought it from said to do a 5 gallon water change once a month you all seem to change the water more often would 1-2 gallons a week be better? I add the kent marine iodine- calc- stong 2x's a week would weekly water changes with catalina replace that?

It probley would it depends if you have a lot of corals that us calcium then you might need to add that do some testing and if it stays up then you don't need to add.I hope your testing for all things specialy the Iodine, cause it sounds like your dosing it to much and will kill things to high.Use salifert test kits!

Thanks Loverotties for the info I was adding 1/2 teaspoon once a week and when I took my water to be tested iodine was 0 calcium was 390 he suggested adding 1/4 tsp 2x's a week instead I will get my own test kits though so I don't have to wait until I go to the LFS.

According the their testing on their own stuff, this stuff has ammonia in it, which will surely kill fish... maybe its a small about.. It think it said .03ppm i guess your LR and stuff would take care of that small amount quickly
If you look at this link, the testing also shows nitrite and nitrate in this water...

It sounds like it's essentially a salt mix like Instant Ocean with the water already added. Imagine the cost to ship that stuff around the country. I've had tanks for over three years now and I do water changes (10% every two weeks) and add kalk. That's it. I've heard that dosing iodine helps Xenia to grow. I've got a battle going to get rid of it in my tank, and I haven't won yet. I can't imagine it growing faster. 99% of supplements are snake oil, to me.
