Now it is a Reef Tank

Took a trip to http://www.harboraquatics.com/ this week end and got some cool stuff.

My tank was set up 7 months ago and I have been letting it mature before progressing. Live rock and a 4.5" sandbed w/10lbs of live sand were added in late March. In late April I added my IPSF detrivour kit and approx 75 assorted snails from Premium Aquatics. So now I had a Live rock tank w/live sand ,cool.

Late in June I needed something to look at besides rock/sand/and macro algea, so I got some green striped mushrooms. Still pretty much just a Live rock tank w/mushrooms.

I knew when I started setting up that I wanted a Madarin, so in early September I setup and connected a 40 Gal refugium. Also in Sept I added a small HippoTang and a male Mandarin. This made it an official FishOnly w/live rock and shrooms.

Well this weekend I got:

an Open Red Brain

a small Hammer

a small Trumpet

and a green star polyp covered rock

Also a gift from Signu459 a colt

So it is now an Official REEF TANK yea!

Life is Good. Phill

PS. Gary if you are listening Thank-You , your legacy lives on.

Phill,
That's what I like to hear, someone that is actually taking it slow. In this world of instant gratification that's rare. Glad to hear the Harbor trip went well. I was going to go but ran VERY late waiting for Horge at the airport. Bob

For that mandarin check out this link, they sell 100 feeder shrimp (amphipods I believe) for $22 delivered. Don't let the mandarin starve.

YZ is correct with his concern on Madarins starving, PLEASE make sure you research this fish thoroughly before deciding to introduce one.

YZ thanks for the link and your concern, but the mandarin was one of the main reasons for being so patient.

my 90 has approx. 130lbs of live rock , the 40 gal refugium has approx 30lbs of rock and a 6" sandbed there are no shortage of pods. They are everywhere even in the daytime w/lights on.

In the last month since he was introduced the only growth i have noticed is his belly and have seen no decline in the pod population.

Life is good Phill

It sounds like you certainly know the Mandarin fish. But I just wanted to point out that I saw an informative article on Mandarins in the November issue of FAMA magazine.
