nobby,

Not too familiar with your setup or tank history (or maybe my addled brain just can't remember further back than... where was I?)

Anyway, lots of other things besides low oxygen availability can be at work. Toxic substances can harm an animal's ability to respire properly, aside from any other damage they cause.

I'm particularly interested in the source and composition of your rock and other substrate, and anynews of in-tank algae.

FWIW, your SG is almost a bit low for me --though you may have been trying to 'up your oxygen saturation' thusly. The thing is that promoting gas exchange via agitation at gas-water interfaces (fans on the water surface, or skimming like you're doing) do more to drive off CO2 and let in O2 than messing with SG can.

How about it, nobby?

not again!!

hi all its me master fish killer.
i just got a algae blenny in the tank, its been 3 months now singe i had a fish in there, because of a outbreak of cyno i had to strip the tank and clean it right out.
i just added this poor bugger, and now its looking sad and gasping for air at the bottom of the tank.. my corals also look a little sad.

im now dumping tons of oxygen into the tank via a venturi, to see if its that.
before i had no oxygen directley in the tank as i have good surface agitation.
all my readings are great at 0.
s.g is 1.022, temp 26c.water is via a kent maxima ro/di unit. ph 8.4.
what am i doing wrong guys
if this one also dies i think i may just call it a day.

hi there, thanks for the reply.
my tank is a 48x15x12 with live rock(60lbs) and some lava rock from my lfs.
i have a small amount of hair algae, and a little brown algae.
the blennie died an hour later, what could have killed him so fast? all the fish in there have died in the first 4 hrs.
im going to raise the s.g to 1.024 slowly over the next few days.
what else do you recommend?
grasping at straws now

Was the fish a recent arrival at your local fish shop. Perhaps the stress of moving it combined with low salinity and insufficient acclimation caused the problem or exacerbated it. It could be too that the fish suffered stress or poisoning before it came to you and it took this long to show up.
The other possibility is heavy metal toxicity from the lava rock, who knows.
