Noisy Pump

Has anyone got any suggestions on how to make a pump quieter?

I have my pump situated underneath my tank in the cabinet feeding my internal skimmer & it's just too noisy.

The first pump I purchased I took back because it was extremely noisy & exchanged it for a much quieter pump but it's still unacceptable.

Anyone got any diy tips that I could try?

Thanks

What type of noise are you referring to, Lee? Is the noise coming from vibration? Do you have your pump sitting on any type of foam? Is your pump hard plumbed to your skimmer?

I had the same problem recently in my tank. The water return pump was vibrating on the aquarium. What an annoying for the fish too. I used a piece of sponge to squeeze inbetween the pump and plexi glass. If it is underneath your tank try getting sone thick soundproof foam at your local semi truck mechnics shop. They use some really great noise reduceing foam for semi trucks. Find the source of the noise and foam it. Hope this helps.

I have a friend with a 135 reef. He used sheets of that foam to line the entire inside of his cabinet, including the doors. You can't hear a thing from that tank! And he has a ton of equipment running underneath it.
