no sump, no skimmer

how hard is it to have a successful reef "say 55gal" w/o using a sump or skimmer? just LR and good water and surface movement. plenty of lighting.

I had a 25gal softie/LPS running for a few months without a skimmer or sump.....but I was lazy with water changes and had lots of algea!

it can be done, but your gonna want to stock it very lightly and do mad water changes. like 25% a week. you can easily do no sump, but you should try the skimmer. really makes your life easy.

Yeah for the cost of the skimmer...probably cheaper than all the WC's

Just look at a HOB Coralife SS or Aqua C.......

Make life alot easier, but if you prefer lots "O" WC's then no need for a skimmer

i would either make the sand bed really easy to remove, so you can export every year, or make it BB so that it is a lot easier for you to siphon out all of the detritus when you do water changes.
