No Starboard - What else ?

Hi,

I'm setting up a new 6x2x2.5 and wanted to use Starboard (my 4' DSB tank crashed after 15 months with shocking hair algae).

Starboard is not available in Australia, is there a substitute material that I can use?

I am thinking of having a remote DSB in a 2.5' long refugium, my idea was to renew completely the DSB on an annual basis.
What are some views on this??

As always any suggestions are greatly appreciatted.

What about that stuff plastic signs are made of, You could silicon around the edges and you can get it just about anywhere. I think it's called corugated plastic.

I just have my LR sitting on the bottom - glass. If you can get some acrylic - that would work as well. Just make sure it's cast. You can get any color you want.

Email King Starboard and ask them who carries it.

Hi Again,

I did lots of searching yesterday and lots of phone calls and located a plastics company that will ship to me.
They make polypropeline (sp) sheeting in all different thickness's and will cut what I need from a large sheet, it works out at roughly $90.00 including shipping to my door.

I asked what they use this particular product for and the answer was for restaurant kitchen benches and outboard transom mounts just to name two, they said its food grade and is the same as cutting board. Its that white natural (plastic) colour.

This sounds like the stuff to me.....yes???

One other question. Does corraline grow on Starboard?

Thanks again for the help.

Jim

Another question, the company also makes it in black.
What would be the best white or black?

White would probably have better reflective properties, which corals generally like.
