Nitrates - Bio Balls

Nitrates in my reef tank are now at 25 mg/l - I have had recommendations to take bio balls out slowly, which I will start tonight. Are these levels toxic to the inverts or will they handle this ok until the bio balls are out.

Also should I put a piece of LR in their place?

those are getting up there. some inverts will not like it, while others will not be to badly affected. you should be able to tell how well they are handling the nitrates by looking at them. is some are looking a little rough then do a water change and start removing the bio-balls.

i would not put anything in their place. LR can be just as bad as the bio-balls if they are exposed to the air like the bio-balls.
