Nikon Cool Pix 775

Anyone have any experience with the CP 775. I know most of you would vote for the 950 or 995 but it's out of my price range. I bought an Olympus D-510 because I have an Olympus 35mm and love it but am finding that the macro mode on it sucks. Looking to exchange it for something that'll take better tank shots but for $600 or less.

I'm a Sony Cyber Shot man myself. These cameras are by far the most user friendly digital cameras I've experienced. Take a look at the DSC-S75. It's a 2.1 or 2.2 mega pixel. I had last years DSC-S50 and the DSC-S70 (3.3 meg). If you go to some of my previous postings you can view some of the low resolution shots. Hope that helps.

I will tell you in about 2 weeks. I just ordered one. We looked through Consumers and a bunch of websites to get all the rating and misc and spoke with a few friends and came up with buying the 775. We bought it from the web so we have to wait a bit but got it for 298 versus 380 to 400 at a retail.Hopefuly it shows soon. If you are going with any camera make sure the optical zoom is high, the digital zoom does not do much for ya shakey. Friend of mine has the 900? and loves it. Good luck

Most of the problems with the 775 are based on its lenses and optics. It appears to suffer pretty seriously from barrel distortion.

I got a Olympus C-3000 recently and then got a set of Tiffen macro lenses (+10 and +7 diopter stackable lenses for $43). With these I can come close to a Nikon 995 (in terms of macro shots, at least).

Here is an example:

Hey Sculpin,

Have had a Coolpix 775 for about 3 months now and just love it. Size is important to me as I usually carry a bunch of "toys" with me whenever I go out. We just returned from a cruise in the Caribbean where I really put the camera through its paces.

Happy to say it performed very well and I was very pleased with the results. The one feature, which I suspect most digital cameras now have, is the ability to measure the white balance. This really helps when shooting under low light level conditions or those present in your Reef. I've attached an example for your viewing.

I have a great site to get memory cards if you're interested. Feel free to email me with any additional questions.

Sorry Anix... almost 1:00am on the East coast....

Missed your name in the first part of the thread and I certainly didn't mean any disrespect Sculpin, to your Olympus camera.

Thanks guys...I'm going to check out the link, try some of the tips I got from GaryD & Bill-E and do some more research....but I'm pretty sure I'm going to trade it in as the D510 doesn't allow for much if any manual adjustment, has no white balance & the macro mode starts at 8". That's what I get for impulse buying without research. I wish I could mail order for a better price but if I want it now it has to come from Circuit City...no interest no payments for 12 months.

Beautiful shrooms Sailfin.

I just purchased a 775 today, if the pictures turn out as well as Sailfins did, I will be more than happy.

Hey Troy,
Well, they might have an orange-ish tint to them but in this part of the country, THIS is Orange!:

If I was a real photography buff I might feel differently, but just speaking as a guy who wanted to take some decent pictures I'm real happy with mine.
