Niger Trigger compatability with...

True Percula clowns...What do ya'll think?

Personally, I would almost never recommend such a pairing, but recently the LFS sold a mated pair of percs to my buddy and told him that they would be fine in the tank with the trigger. Anyhow...one day later...one of the percs is showing significant damage to its dorsal fin area and I naturally suspect the trigger.

With all this having been said...do you guys not think that he should let me take on his trigger until his perc heals and then let him decide what to do as far as which ones to keep?

umm i think the perculas in this case are fishfood, or soon to be anyways. sounds like the common variety lfs advice. not that its all their fault its his too. but even someone with minimal knowlege should know a niger trigger will beat up/eat anything it can. it is a cool fish tho

I have a Niger and i wouldn't put it in with a perc . Then again mine is mean and goes after me when I'm near the tank or putt my hand in .

I guess it depends on how big he is . I've also had a Niger that was very passive and wouldn't bother any fish

size is the big question here. if the size difference is great than the perc will prolly be beaten up. if they are close in size than you may have a chance.

your 46 gallon tank is way to small for a niger trigger. Triggers need hundreds of gallons of water in full size.

Well...I don't think that the perculas are in a situation where they should be moved...so the tank size is not the main issue. The trigger will be fine for a couple of weeks. He is only about a two inch fish.

Anyhow...most of you agree? We should move the trigger for now?

i like triggers. alot infact. but i think they should be kept in fowlr systems with other aggressive meat eating fish that could possibly stand a chance in a fight. with exceptions possibly being bluethroats and pinktails. jmo

kinda like my lion, little nemo could easily be eaten if the lion saw fit, but for some reason theyre buddies, ive even seen him seemingly try to host in his spines.
