News and Fun Stuff

I finished curing all my base rock this week, placed it in my tank. Had to remove my damsels, lord, you guys were right, they were a pain in the rear to catch! I was worried about my 'pods getting smooshed when I was moving the rock, but that evening they were running around on the sand again.

I traded in my damsels and some caulerpa at my LFS and got a few scarlet hermits. Neat little buggers. Not an hour after putting them in the tank (after acclimating) the largest hermit started messing with an empty shell, and then really quickly switched over to it. I almost missed it! Getting them has made me realize something though, I need a bunch more! Six hermits just isn't going to cut it in a 100g . Oh, has anyone ever noticed feather dusters on their hermit shells? I found what look to be feathers on three of their shells. Think it could be feather dusters?

I talked to Richard at TBS today, and I sent my order in to him, supposed to have it sent out sometime next week (him and his partner are both sick in bed). I can't wait till it gets here, then a while after that, I can actually get more critters!!

WOOOHOOO!!!!! Love this stuff!

Btw, I will take some pics so I can get some comments on the "rock-scaping" I did (don't think much of it, compared to what I have seen from you all).

All right, on the way. (to spending more $$)
Besides the Hermits, you'll need snails too. The (sp) Narcisus is a nice one, it burrows into the sand and helps to sift the sand

The snails are good at crowding the front glass too whenever you have someone looking at your tank. Everyone else hides but every snail you remember buying plus some are present and accounted for.

Yeah, I have a few Turbo snails already, planning on getting some Ceriths, Nassarius, and BumbleBees. When I got home tonight, they all seemed to be hiding in different places. I guess it will take a bit for them to get comfortable in their new home.

I also have those feather duster type things growing on my LR and LPS corals. They seem to be multiplying too which is always good in a reef! Gives me something to look forward to every morning.

I would love to see a mobile one like yours in my tank.

if you are going to keep snails and hermits in the same tank then make sure you also get extra shells. hermits will kill snails for their shells. i used to ask the LFS i was getting the hermits from if they would throw some empties in the bag. you can never have to many extra shells when hermits are around.

Wow I did not know that about the hermits. I'm going to have to get some empty shells right away then. Has anyone ever heard of a starfish killing a hermit though? We found a few hermit legs floating about the tank but no idea what happened to it and all we have is 1 clown, 1 tang, and 1 green brittle star.

it could have been a molt. or it could have been a hermit ousting another hermit for its shell. prolly a molt though.
