New(ish) 125- Help with Cyno and Hair Algae
Hello All-
I just moved everything from my 45 gallon (20g sump) to a 125... It was a long process but I am finally done- Everyone looks really healthy too! I was beginning to get come cyno and hair algae in my 45 and want to prevent this in the new tank. I have been reading all this info about how phosphates contribute to cyno and hair algae and was wondering if Purigen will help with this? I should also mention that my refugium is full of calarpua and it is very green and growing rapidly. I already use a RO/DI filter that feeds directly into my tank and has no storage container (no leaching from the plastic). Any suggestions would be great! Thanks
Mike

I use purigen off and on, unfortunately I have not noticed that it made a dent in my hair problem. As far as hair goes I have tried everything, phosphate sponges, reduced light cycle, reduced feedings, more circulation, frequent water changes, new bulbs, and a host of critters that is supposed to help. My advice is to get a good toothbrush and get used to scrubbing 2 - 3 times weekly. I have had it for about 6 months now, and apparently it's smarter than I am.

I was about to tell you the same thing as pirate. However, I bought two "bullet" or "banded" gobies. All they do all day is eat my hair algea. There is still some in the tank, but they seem to keep it under control. There also pretty cool fish, but I'm a Goby lover.

yup that would be a Cat. Goby.
Unfortunatly life span is fairly short due to the warmth of our tanks
Good luck
