Newest aquisition

LFS said this was fine with a mandarin. One employee there had one of these w/ a mandarin with no problem so thought I would try it. What do you guys/gals think? How's he look?

What????...Yellow Tang, Zoos, Gold Strip Maroon, BTA, Chromis....What exactly.

The BTA could possibly eat it....

I have had mandarains...that were eating and simply disapeared...may have died....may have been anemone food

It's the maroon clown right? nice but they can be pretty agressive. They will even sometime rip the anemone apart

If it's the GSM clown....I had one and he'd chase fish if they got w/ a 8-10 radius of his anemone....my mandarain stayed away.

I had to take her back to the LFS as she was always stirring up the sand, and moving or knocking things down.

LFS said that maroon clowns were less aggressive. My yellow tang is keeping him in check (she's a brat).

"What????...Yellow Tang, Zoos, Gold Strip Maroon, BTA, Chromis....What exactly."

Everyone said anemone (can't remember what type this one is) might eat the mandarin but LFS said no way, they've never heard of such a thing. Mandarin I've had for about a year and he's been doing great. Seems to leave this anemone alone anyways. (How do you quote someone with this program...can't remember)

"It's the maroon clown right? nice but they can be pretty agressive. They will even sometime rip the anemone apart"

Maroon clown and anemone came as a pair from the LFS. I put the anemone into a crevice type area like instructed and he's sinking in. May come out a little once he gets situated, but he isn't closed up at all like they warned me he might be for awhile.

My LFS has always had good advice but often you have better. They have been honest with me in the past and not just try to "sell me something." Husband really wanted this piece! I really hope it works out. My "crevice" may have been too big, should I try to move the anemone up a little and put something in the crevice or will he situate himself how he wants to?

just leave the anemone alone it will move itself if it is in the wrong place. it is the GSM that i'd be cautious about. JMO though

Just click the quote button in the person's reply that you'd like to quote. Then type your info and waah laa.

In general the advice you got from the LFS is fine.....you should be fine as long as you can supply the mandarain w/ enough food. You may not have enough LR and pods. Do you have a Fudge or is the Mandarain eating prepared food?

I don't know for sure if the anemone ate him....just had two fat looking mandarains over the years that ...vanished....one was even eating when I feed my other fish.

Thanks for the quote reminder! I couldn't remember (brain lock). Mandarin seems to have enough food. I have a refugium in the tank covered with LR that's a breeding ground for copepods (other fish can't get to them). I even "inoculated" it with copepods I bought in a bottle. My mandarin WAS losing weight when I first had him for the first month, but in the past year since I put in the refugium he's gotten HUGE.

BTA seems happy. Clown seems happy and everyone seems to get along. My tang IS a brat and will try to spike the clown if he goes into her territorry, but I don't think he's leaving that anemone anytime soon. I will keep an eye on them though. LFS said that clown shouldn't hurt the BTA too bad (only time to worry about that is when BTA is splitting).
