Newbie Questions about Live Rock Choices

All,
I have been lurking for a few months now just trying to get as much knowledge as I can before I make the switch from fresh to Salt.
All the informaiton is overwhelming and I am now posting my first question....in terms of live rock choice, I am really confused on what the choices are and the downsides to the choices in terms of what type of LR I can choose. I love Fiji for the color but also others for the structure.....Can I mix and match successfully? If there an unwritten rule to how one would mix and match? When people say ~1.5# per gallon, does that account for allowing room for specialty purchases such as Mushroom Corals, etc...?

Alot of people say to stay with one type of rock. If you are going with figi then try to stay with figi. I, on the other had, like the differences in rock and have had no problems with them. Try to look for pieces that have different coralline algae growing on them. This way you will introduce more than one type to your tank. I would have to say that the decision is up to you.

I mixed my live rock and didn't see any issues, the onloy thing that comes to mind is preople who might want to have a biotope specific tank.
Other than that hitchhikers and making sure it is well cured should be your only issue.
