Newbie has more questions on sumps and refugiums
Hey Guys,
Sorry I haven't been on here in awhile. Was doing some research on products for my tank and working. I have some more questions, so here they are:
1. What is the difference between a sump and a refugium?
2. Could I do both together in the same 20 gal long tank?
3. I want to upgrade my protein skimmer and put it in the sump. Could I use an Aqua C Urchin Pro with a Mag Drive 3 pump? I heard good things about them.

One more quick question. Do I have to have a certain amount of posts, in order to have my signature show up?

well Pbear.
here is some reading for you on just that!.
also read the sump articles by gregt. very very good adn will give you a lot of ideas.
in a nut shell. sump is an extention of the tank and a great place to hide things ( heater, skimmer etc..) it adds volume to your tank.
a refuge can be one of two things.. a place to keep fish or others safe ( haven) or a area to use as a organics export. using various types or macroalgae. Some also try to use this as a pod habitat for the main tank.
can it be done on a 20 long.. possible.. think you can seperate then out to 20L sump and 10g refuge?
not sure about your skimmer , that is not one i have or have used.

So a sump basically hides equipment and a refugium has LR, mineral mud, and calpera in it? So then I could do both, right?

from what i read, the urchin is the same thing as the remora, but the urchin is the sump model and the remora is the hob model. how do you feel about the rmoras?
