Newbie...again
Looking to put together a reef tank, I actually had a reef tank about 17 yrs. ago and am ready to get back..Looks like some things have changed since then. Lots of questions, so please forgive my ignorance. I'll start with what may seem a stupid question, but this will determine the placement of the tank. I am planning on setting this up in our basement which also is the home theater room. So, does anyone know if the loud sound, especially deep and loud bass, does any harm to the livestock in the tank? Thanks.

Thats a good question. I have no clue.
Waves crashing against the coral reefs makes a ton of noise (I would think), but It would definetly be a different noise. Tagging along to see the outcome.

Don't worry about it, unless you are putting the subwoofer right under the tank. The sounds and vibrations will not be bad enough to bother the fish, and even if the fish are bothered a little at first, they will soon become accustomed over the course of a couple of weeks. Also depends on how skittish the fish are that you are planning on keeping, for example of you are planning on keeping firefish, then they may be quite skittish at first.

I would not worry about the fish or coral, but... the tank and stand might have a problem. with the weight against everything i thing the vibration could eventually cause issues with the seams and joints. Not sure if i would take the risk. it also depends on the volume you have the theatre at too.

given the fact that it is in the basement, the amount of vibrations coming from the floor would be minimal, and any vibrations that the home theatre would create would likely be nothing compared to a room that is has a wood floor and people walking by it constantly. I don't think it will be a problem at all. I have seen some pretty huge tanks other than mine that have home theatres in a very close proximity with no problems at all.

My husbands home theater is down stairs in the basement and the vibrations and noise sound and feel much worse up here then when you are in the theater room.

I had one of my tanks set to the side of my room situated aproximately between the right front speaker and the sub woofer. The fish grew quite accustomed to the noise fairly quickly and paid no attention to it after a while.

I think it would bother the tank structure and seals etc.. if it's a small reefBut a big one maybe only extertal pump pipes and seals(but you can bolt them down to).
