New to the board
Just wanted to say hello. I have a 75 gallon rectangle in my wall at home. Just now getting it ready for more animals. AGAIN. Moved it from another house 2 years ago and never got it going until now. Right now I have the normal clean-up stuff (turbo's, hermits, etc). Getting the skimmer ready and replacing 2 of the 4 VHO's with new lights. Can anyone advise on the lighting for a set up like that? I want to have a few "maintenance" fish but want some Clowns and Anenomes with a few other local corals. I have a wet dry 12"wide x 24"long x 20"high with 12" by 12" full of Bio blocks and no undergravel (I am looking to upgrade. Any advice on that would be great also). Water tests look great and pushing the water with a Little Giant model 2A. I am open for suggestions.

Welcome to TRT! I'm no expert but most people would ask you what corals you plan on keeping. For a 75 gal tank, VHO's may have a hard time penetrating that depth for much more than soft corals, so you might want to think about metal halides if LPS or SPS are desired. The BioBalls may also cause some trouble in the future. Most go for a good amount of live rock or live sand and plenty of protein skimming instead. Well, if you wait around a little longer, some better advice will roll in. HTH, HG

Welcome to TRT, If You are running 4 VHO's I would replace all the bulbs with actinics and white, I can't think what they call the daylight ones, I like URL's bulbs the best , I would do two white and 2 actinics. That is plenty of light for what you want to do, The bio ball I would just get rid of, and used more live rock. Buy and use as much live rock that you can afford and looks good to you in the tank.

The bio blocks are square and are not made any more. they are in the sump or wet dry. Just remove them? Any advantage to increasing the sump size? BTW the tank is only 23 inches deep. Thanks for the quick responses. this is great.

Welcome!!
My only input is in agreement to LOSE the bio balls....or at least work towards that goal in a reasonable amount of time.

Yea I would just get rid of them right off and use the sump for extra water and heater or what ever to hide, as far as a larger sump , I say go with as big as You can fit under the stand.

Welcome, Gary! I would lose the bio balls and invest in MH lighting if you want to keep corals - - -
